Confirmed replacement clutching

West Coast Blue Penguin Trust ranger Reuben Lane has observed the first recorded case of replacement clutching on the West Coast.

The burrow near the Nile River has been one he has monitored this season. Replacement clutching is where a second clutch is laid after chicks from the first clutch fledge.  Sadly Reuben says preliminary results show there are less burrows with two chicks this season and productivity seems to be down on previous breeding seasons.
